Exploring thresholds of AI-powered authorship

What exactly happens when hand-sketched ideas are being interpreted into three dimensional shapes? How can AI design tools become a source of formal inspiration? Starting with the same initial idea, expressed by a hand sketch, the two 3D-printed vase-resembling objects explore visuality of different form-finding workflows in CAD environment.

First vase is a manually modelled result driven by purely subjective aesthetic preferences, using standard 3D modelling tools in Blender. The second object is a result of AI images prompting iterations in VizCom and their subsequent 3D transformations.

The objects are early outcomes of Vladimír Boroň’s dissertation research focused on the use of the AI supported tools in the automotive design process. The goal of the research is to explore practices that could enable the use of emerging AI tools in a way that empowers human creativity. The research builds on Vladimír’s free „post graffiti“ practice – abstract and analog painting & modelling improvisations, which he perceives as a way of forming author’s expression and distinctive design language replicable in commercial work.
