Covid Colab

Experimental co-creation initiative

Covid Colab (Covid Collaboration Lab) was an experimental design initiative that aimed to apply the principles of design thinking and complete co-creation in the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In April 2020, project initiators published and open call in cooperation with Slovak Design Center. 10 volunteers who joined the project – both students and professionals – formed 2 woking groups with the goal with the goal to identify local problems and outline possible solutions.

The working groups developed strategies for two design-driven solutions:

  • a communication platform for local assistance to marginalized groups
  • a non-contact disinfection supporting the circular economy.

Shared communication platform facilitated by Covid Colab started new partnerships and managed to connect students of different design schools in Slovakia and Czech Republic, creating space for further cooperation. The results of the project were presented at the exhibition DESIGN IS NOW! (Galéria Satelit, 1. 6. 2020 – 2. 9. 2020).

Direct continuation of the initiative was the long term cooperation with Slovak Diamond group – starting with the project of modular disinfection device Modulo, that was directly continued by 2 generations of functional prototypes Nanodi M1 & M3 and Nanodi Aria & Maia.
